Boston City Paper is please to present the Class of 2019 Valedictorians from the Boston Public Schools

Sunday, June 2nd is Dorchester Day and many of the valedictorians are from this historic town which is the home of the first public school in America, the Mather School in Meeting House Hill located right behind the First Parish Church, home of the first town meeting in America, the oldest form of democracy known to society.

We salute our city’s valedictorians and also all the high school graduates of the public, private, and Catholic Schools. Congratulations, your high school diploma was well earned and qualifies you to move forward in your life.

As you can see from the bios of these valedictorians some have already been accepted into colleges and some are still deciding what their next step in life will be. Service in the military is also an excellent option as the military provides exceptional educational opportunities FREE OF CHARGE and for many struggling families, this is a way to get ahead in life. These are the decisions to be made, but first and foremost the preparations for the next step have been taken.

Back in the 1930s, 40s, 50s many people quit school at the age of sixteen. Some even at an earlier age. But as time went on, the high school diploma became critical in the society no more so than today. Here in Boston the construction unions have some of the finest apprenticeship programs in the world, many situated in Dorchester such as the Plumbers, the Pipefitters, The Carpenters, the Electricians, Sheet Metal, Elevator Constructors and more.

Then there are the junior colleges and outstanding Tech schools like Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology. Each choice will move you forward toward a better life ahead for those who take action now and make the right decision for themselves and their families.

Boston is proud of all its graduates. Keep up the good work. Congratulations.
