SOUTHWEST AIRLINES REACHES OUT TO THE COMMUNITY IN SUPPORT OF DORCHESTER’S MARY ANN BRETT FOOD PANTRY

While the coronavirus pandemic continues to challenge our communities, many are stepping up to volunteer and help others in need.

Over the weekend, Southwest Airlines generously donated over 12,000 snacks to the Mary Ann Brett Food Pantry in Dorchester. These snacks would normally be served on their planes. But since many of their planes are grounded, Southwest reached out to the Food Pantry.

The Mary Ann Brett Food Pantry, which serves hundreds of local families in need, is funded by private donations and managed by a staff of committed volunteers. According to Jim Brett, this food pantry is one of the largest in Dorchester and the need is greater than ever.

Because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the annual Saint Patrick’s Day fundraiser had to be postponed. This event has become very popular in recent years as they honor and enroll worthy Dorchester residents into the Dorchester Hall of Fame.

Governor Baker and Mayor Walsh have always shown up along with City Councilors Frank Baker and Annissa Essaibi-George and other elected officials to support the Brett Family in their efforts to keep this food pantry operational in honor of the family matriarch, the late Mary Ann Brett.  The Mary Ann Brett Food Pantry is located in St. Margaret Church at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish and is open Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Please use the rear entrance to the Church at 73 Roseclair Street, Dorchester.
