BPS students get free books in support of STEAM learning

On Thursday, July 26 2018, Boston Public Schools (BPS) students at a 5th Quarter summer learning program in Hyde Park received free copies of Charlie Numbers and the Man in the Moon by local authors Tonya and Ben Mezrich to promote summer reading and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) learning.

 More than 10,000 copies of the book, which is on the BPS summer reading list, are being given away for free to all rising sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at the Boston Public Library thanks to a donation from Vertex Pharmaceuticals, a STEAM partner of BPS.

 The 5th Quarter summer learning initiative is a research-backed approach that blends fun activities and academics. The program will reach about 13,000 students in Boston this summer.

 The event took place at the Grew Elementary School located in Hyde Park. Among those in attendance were the following:
